Applications
Protecting the Structure Under Everything Else
The metal deck is the most consequential and least visible steel in a building. When a fluted roof deck corrodes under wet insulation, or a mezzanine plate floor wears through its shop primer under pallet-jack traffic, the fix is structural — cutting, welding, engineering, downtime. ArmorDeck exists so it never gets that far: a fluid-applied membrane that armors the deck surface against moisture, abrasion and corrosion for the life of the assembly.
Primary applications our system is specified for:
- Fluted metal roof decks (B-deck, N-deck) — topside protection during reroofing while the deck is exposed, and underside encapsulation of decks showing early corrosion in high-humidity occupancies like natatoriums, kitchens and process areas.
- Mezzanine floors — smooth plate and tread plate surfaces that see forklift, cart and foot traffic. The membrane adds a seamless wear layer with optional aggregate broadcast for slip resistance.
- Catwalks and elevated walkways — continuous waterproof film over grated-adjacent plate sections and stair landings, sealing tread-to-stringer joints that trap water.
- Equipment platforms and housekeeping pads — chemical and washdown exposure around rooftop and interior mechanical equipment.
Preparation and Conditions
ArmorDeck is specified against SSPC surface preparation standards, which makes it easy to drop into Division 05 or Division 07 language:
- SSPC-SP1 solvent cleaning on all surfaces to remove oils and cutting fluids — mandatory on new deck with mill oils.
- SSPC-SP2/SP3 hand or power-tool cleaning of rusted areas to tight, sound metal; welds ground smooth of spatter.
- On heavily corroded existing decks, SSPC-SP6 commercial blast where access allows, with the membrane applied the same shift to prevent flash rust.
Application window: substrate 50°F to 120°F and 5°F above dew point. Because the membrane sets tack-free in seconds, decks return to trade traffic almost immediately — a genuine scheduling advantage on occupied renovations where a mezzanine cannot be closed for days. Interior applications require standard spray-containment and ventilation practice; our technical team reviews containment plans on request.
